EcoTurs sells a variety of jewelry and artifacts manufactured by local communities near the reserves of ProAves in order to provide sustainable incomes for members of these communities. These products are sold in a number of ProAves reserves and also through a limited number of outlets in the UK and the USA , and through Ebay.

These products are produced through the Women for Conservation Program. At present the supply of these products is insufficient to satisfy demand, but the program is increasing rapidly and if you are interested in retailing these products in the USA , UK or other countries please email us at fundacion@proaves.org.

Poverty in rural areas is a great challenge, where incomes are very low and most women are poorly educated, lack skills and forced to work in extreme conditions, while to the neglect of their families.

The ProAves Conservation Program has linked to community women and heads of households in buffer areas of it network of reserves, providing directly training, workshops and campaigns designed to raise awareness and encourage the best use of natural resources. ProAves believes strongly to involve women in conservation issues as a catalyst for involving the world.

Workshops in El Pangán Bird Reserve, Nariño

Currently ProAves has organized 4 groups of women from three different reserves and a project site with a total of 40 workshops and 120 hours of training in best use of natural resources, such as macramé, art craft, working with seeds, hand painting and embroidery.

Women for Conservation in El Paujil Bird Reserve, Boyacá

With this experience, ProAves aims to expand the initiative to other reserves and so promote environmentally-friendly initiatives and opportunities for women of all ages that will help alleviate poverty, improve standards of living and generate an attitude change towards conservation.
