About EcoTurs Colombia

EcoTurs Colombia aims to promote environmentally-sensitive ecotourism of Colombia's fauna and flora working with local communities and conservation NGOs.

EcoTurs aims to contribute to the protection of habitats through providing alternative incomes for local communities. EcoTurs also aims to develop and market ecological tourism both within and outside Colombia, to bring greater benefits to conservation of Colombian biodiversity.

The EcoTurs initiative

In a pioneering initiative, Fundación ProAves and EcoTurs Colombia have teamed up to offer high quality and safe birding and nature tours with 100% of profits going to conservation in Colombia.

In the past decade, ProAves has established a spectacular network of 15 nature reserves, owning over 35,000 acres that protects over 62% of all threatened birds and over 1,100 bird species, as well as numerous endangered amphibians, mammals and other species. In addition to protecting many of the most important and threatened sites for biodiversity, ProAves focuses significant efforts to involve local communities through education and training.

Due to restrictions on the activities of Colombian NGOs, and to allow ProAves to focus on its conservation mission, EcoTurs Colombia, a limited company, was formed specifically to develop and manage high quality nature tourism at ProAves reserves and other sites.

Over the past five years, to assist with long-term sustainability each reserve has built up an infrastructure for visitors, with each hosting accommodation and nature trails. We have trained local people and conservation managers to ensure their direct involvement and purchase local produce to maximize community benefits.

We have designed outstanding itineraries with smooth-running logistics to ensure an unparalleled nature extravagance. Our guides are experienced naturalists and birders, such as Trevor Ellery, Luis Eduardo Ureaña, Ben Freeman, Alonso Quevedo, and Dr Frank Lambert.
